Mayor Richards Honors RACS students

Mayor Richards Honors RACS Students For Outstanding Accomplishment!

Rochester Academy Charter School Science Olympiad Team met with Rochester Mayor Tom Richards today.  RACS took the short trip over to Mayor Richards office at City Hall.  RACS students were excited to meet Rochester's leader and it was a memory that will last a lifetime.  Our students were invited into Mayor Richards boardroom to have a special meeting with the Mayor.  Our students sat around the luxurious boardroom table talking about how the leaders of Rochester make decisions that affect our everyday life in those very same seats.  It was inspirational.  Mayor Richards inquired about the many medals our Science Olympiad team has won.  Each student had a chance to speak to the Mayor and explain their wins in detail. RACS students had Mayor Richards complete attention.  The Mayor spoke about how proud he was of them and their accomplishments as RACS is the only Rochester City School that has these specific accomplishments.  Mayor Richards then to our surprise awarded each RACS student with a certificate of accomplishment from him.  Our students were so excited about the unexpected honor that they spoke about keeping their certificates forever.   The experience was an amazing one that our students will cherish forever. A copy of their certificates will be tucked safely in their files waiting college application time while the originals are hung in their homes with pride.

RACS Science Olympiad Team Motivation Trip to the Ivy League

Rochester Academy Charter School students visited Yale University on November 13th.  The Science Olympiad Motivation Trip consisted of numerous visits to the top universities over the weekend. Students started their visit in Boston, MA with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T). Students were impressed with the amazing architecture of MIT buildings and the classroom environments.

Right after the visit to MIT, students traveled to Cambridge, MA to see Harvard University. The charming atmosphere at Harvard University positively impacted a lot of students’ desires for getting into top universities. Right after that, students moved into Connecticut to stay overnight in order to visit Yale University in New Haven the next day.

Our guide who is studying for a post-doctorate at Yale University hosted us in New Haven, CT. Students were very impressed with the magnificent look and the environment of one of the Top Universities in the world. The 2-hour walk around the campus made students eager to work hard at RACS to get into these colleges after high school. Our trip ended in the bookstore of Yale University where some students bought gifts for friends and families.
