Why School Uniforms?
A dress code and its implementation impact both the constitutional rights of students and the responsibilities of school officials to maintain an environment conducive to learning. As such, the purpose of this dress code is to strike a positive balance between a student’s right to free expression and the educational mission of Rochester Academy Charter School. There is a dress code policy at Rochester Academy Charter School to create a safe and respectful environment, instill pride in our school community, and eliminate competition and distractions during the school day. You will be expected to arrive in dress code every day.
School Uniforms can be bought from a variety of retailers endorsed by the school.
Uniform Expectations:
SHIRTS
There are several uniform options available for purchase in the school office and online from approved vendors. Students may wear any approved polo shirt, sweatshirt, or t-shirt as the top layer of their clothing with the logo visible at all times. No other shirts may be worn over the top of the uniform layer.
PANTS
Dress pants or slacks that fit properly, worn at the waist, and without rips or holes. Approved color: Khaki/ tan or black.
SKIRTS/ SHORTS
Knee-length, with no designs or logos. Approved color: Khaki/ tan or black
ATHLETIC WEAR
Sweat pants, yoga pants, or athletic shorts are not permitted in the classroom setting. PLEASE NOTE: Athletic wear is only approved for PE and need not be of a specific color.
OTHER

Hats, caps, scarves, and other headgear may not be worn in the building, with the exception of religious headgear.

Flip-flops, slippers, heels over 1,” or open-toed shoes are not allowed.

Clothes shall be sufficient to conceal undergarments at all times. See-through or fishnet fabrics, ripped clothing, tube tops, off-the-shoulder, spaghetti straps or low-cut tops, bare midriffs, and skirts or shorts shorter than knee-length are prohibited.

Glasses may be worn for vision correction only. No sunglasses, 3D glasses, or costume glasses are allowed.
Violations of the dress code should be considered opportunities or “teachable moments” to discuss issues around dress and appearance, such as culture, religious identity, gender and gender identity, dignity, and respect.
Students who violate the dress code, including school-level standards, will be required to modify their appearance by covering or removing the offending item, and if necessary, or practical, replacing it with an acceptable item. Any student who refuses to do so shall be subject to a Level 1 or Level 2 response as described by the Code of Conduct.
If a student arrives at school out of uniform the school will offer the loan of a uniform, if available. If the student refuses or no loaner is available, then parents will be called, and the student will be kept out of classes until the student is dressed appropriately. All class time missed will count as an unexcused absence.
